да ну, почитай интервью по ссылке, там Лес как раз говорит
о своих влияниях. а Веном наверное когда то по приколу
сказал...журналисты достали. может ему в ранней молодости
трэшак и нравился, но он от него и отошел к концу 80-ых,
чтобы Примус собрать и играть музыку к которой его
действительно влекло.

As the legend goes, one day Kirk Hammett asked his schoolyard pal Les Claypool to try out for this band called Metallica he was in. Les agreed, and auditioned later that week. However, the members of Metallica felt that Claypool was “too crazy” to join the band. Now, some versions of this story may differ, but the tale does have one shining truth: Les Claypool is as crazy as bassists come. Taking his stylistic cues from Funk and Flamenco, Claypool has an outlandishly percussive style that has mesmerized audiences since he started performing in 1963. He picked up the Carl Thompson piccolo bass after seeing Stanley Clarke, his idol, play one on stage; it soon became his trademark. As he started creating his own compositions, he began to formulate the idea for a band of his own. With the help of Todd Huth and Jay Lane, Primus was born. Primus featured Claypool on Bass as well as Vocal Duties, His vocal style imitating the frenzied rhythmic flavor of his bass in an near-narrative structure. Primus gained a formidable following, due in great part to Claypool’s unique stage presence and unconventional style. Claypool still manages to run several side projects in addition to his primus duties, including Sausage (a reunion of the original Primus members), Les Claypool & the Holy Mackerel, Lieutenant Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, and jam rock supergroup Oysterhead (Featuring Trey Anastasio of Phish and Stewart Copeland of The Police). He even took time to write the theme song to South Park. If that doesn’t qualify him for the Mr. Eccentricity award for Rock, i don’t know what does.
