Poor fuel economy? It uses 14 liters for every 100 km, normal on-road driving. It's not that bad. And parts are easily available online. I replaced all the three door mechanism some weeks ago, and it cost me 45 bucks... 15 for each mechanism (2.5 each if I order from Russia). I replaced wheel bearings in the front too, and that cost me 80 bucks (for four wheel bearings). If I order from Russia, it cost about 1/5 of that, but postage makes it not worth it for such small amounts. But for more expensive parts... I can order from Russia. E. g. a new distributor would cost me around 30 bucks from Russia (130 bucks from Germany).
500 buck car? My UAZ is made for the Red Army, so it is made using the best steel they had. It's from 1988 and still it has no rust whatsoever . They had no planned obsolescence in the Soviet Union, so everything was designed and built to last (only Soviet incompetence messed that up every now and then....). The engine will probably outlast me (I am 45), and my children will be able to inherit the car, and possibly even let their children inherit it. If you think you can buy a military UAZ like the one I have for 500 bucks... then think again. I could easily get 10.000 bucks for that car here in France, if I wanted to sell it. I don't |
