Poropetra Информация о группе Poropetra is old Finnish and means the Elk of Hiisi (Hiiden hirvi in Finnish) from Finnish mythology. Elk is an old totem animal for Finno-Ugric and Siberian peoples, which is why it describes so well bands music – ethnic metal based in kantele the old Finnish string instrument. The music gets it’s inspiration from the musical traditions of Finno-Ugric peoples, Tuvinian throat-singing and ethnic/world music altogether – combining in this mixture the elements of psychedelic rock and traditional heavy metal music. The more exact and accurate genre-definition shall be left to a listener to decide. Poropetra was founded by Juha Jyrkäs in the year 2002. The first demo-tape Poropetra -MCD was published already in the year 2004. Poropetra’s first full album, Sinihirwi presents the electrified distorted kantele sound along with basic electric guitar, which makes a whole new soundscape to the songs. Groovy arrangement and old runo-singing –style written lyrics will make this original combination very unique. Band members Juha Jyrkäs and Kuuraparta are studying Finno-Ugric languages and cultures, which makes the content believable. What comes to traditional Finnish folk music itself, violin player Hittavainen has played it for years. Finno-ugric heritage and old traditions have been the strongest basements for the band since the beginning. The members of Poropetra are playing in other bands too. The headman Juha Jyrkäs is writing Finnish lyrics to the folk metal band Korpiklaani, which is very popular in Germany and in Central Europe. As a matter of fact, Korpiklaani is the basic band in which Hittavainen namely plays his violin. Kantele-traditions and metal music combinations are also familiar to the second kantele-player Kuuraparta, who has an own band Nostatus, while the drummer Aapo Hopeakoski plays in the Finnish metal band Corruption Inc. Sinihirwi album, published in 18.7.'07, shows all playing skills of the band members - in versatile and original way. A 250 print limited edition of Sinihirwi is now more or less sold out. Another edition will be taken in the near future. So far Poropetra hasn't yet signed with any label. In the autumn 2007 the new and skillfull guitar player, Markus Ylikoski joined the group. At the moment Poropetra is writing new material to be published sometimes somewhere in the future..
