...In the year of 1994 guitar player Markus Glanz after a two year break, began searching for musicians to start with his new project. The style for it was supposed to be a mix of score and progressive metal music.
A musical fairytale was to be created, combining a story with pictures, visually and musically. It was a long process and a difficult search to find the perfect musicians. Many candidates failed along the journey, for they didn't have the right motivation and vision.
Suddenly, while in search for a rehearsal room in Munich, in one of the rooms they saw a big drum set. They asked the owner of that room who was using it. Apparently no one, so they immediately got in contact with the drummer Stefan Petzoldt.
Markus and Stefan quickly realized that they both had the same views on music and both were influenced by the same Artists of the past. After the first jam session's it was clear that they both were to start a great musical journey together. It took one year and endless hours of rehearsals in this little 12 qm room (which 70% of the space was taken by the drum set) until the first song ideas were written using solely drums and keyboards.
In 1995 keyboarder and piano player; Wolfgang Schneider, became part of the band. Influenced by classical music and having a huge background knowledge of all the musical arts, completely blew Markus and Stefan away with his symphonic arrangements.
From that day on they began working real hard towards what is to become a musical masterpiece. In Wolfgang's apartment was a small studio that was decent enough to start with the first recordings. During that period they met Michael Scherz, who made the full line up complete. With that a new 100qm room was found and the band started to play live and loud.
After through and long endless discussions they all decided to call their project "Koyaanisqatsy", taken from the famous cult-movie documentation (Notice that the movie title is written with an "i" at the end)
Piece by piece they moved closer. Achieving a musical style influenced by romantic classical music. It was the powerful drum-grooves and energetic staccato guitar-playing that made the style of "Koyaanisqatsy" visible as progressive metal.
Since they have not yet to succeed finding the right singer, the band decided to produce a pure instrumental album. Markus fiddled around with the material for a live show. The idea was to bring a multimedia show on stage with a fantasy style stage setup. While a movie playing on a big screen in the background.
Since the beginning of their musical careers, all band members have always admired the works of the old masters of classical music. Especially romantic classic.
By listening to their glorious music, one can easily recognize the influence. It took nearly 4 years until the songs were written and recorded.
At this time they all felt they were ready to play these fine hymns live. The 6 songs on their first CD (divided into 7 pieces) had the title "From The Yearning To Burst The Perpetual Circle". This production combined almost unlimited dynamic, bombastic and melodic arrangements. The lengths of the songs have an average duration of 8 to 12 minutes (total 67 min.).The final track "Golden Dawn" is at an epic length of 18 minutes long. Quite possibly the most advanced piece of their music so far.
In December of 2000 the band went through hard times and some unexpected events. Thus ultimately leading to the band splitting up on the 1st of January in 2001.
But this was not the end of the saga . . .

наверное, я не особый фанат такого прога, с замашкой на жуткую красоту, особенно что-то запарили постоянные синты.
