welcome to all of you!!!! some of you might not have noticed that through the years we thought we have been able to sort of establish our FREAKSHOW ARTROCK FESTIVAL in WÜRZBURG/GERMANY despite the fact that we lost lots of money with every edition. but due to the help and support of a small group of loyal fans and the positive feedback of all the bands who have been participating in our festival, every year we found the courage and strenght to carry on to offer some great over-the-top rock music outside of the mainstream to anybody interested in adventurous sounds.
but in 2006, while we had another line-up of great artists like NEBELNEST, UZVA, LIQUID SCARLET, JEAVESTONE, OCTAFISH, PANZERBALLETT and COUNTERWORLD EXPERIENCE, we were left alone with only around 100 visitors. so we decided to call it quits and bury the festival in its original form.
that means, that we will no longer be able to fix and work on the festival on a certain date and later on contact the respective bands to participate, but we agreed to go on with the FREAKSHOW-IN-CONCERT series, that is dedicated to getting a show on stage for a band passing by and applying for a performance.
since the financial risk of such a single concert is way smaller than organizing a festival, we gladly accepted a show offer by well-known US-avant-metal artists SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM during their small european tour.
when we finally (and gladly) agreed on the 21. of april for this happening, we immediately asked polish dark metal rockers INDUKTI to figure as support, and they really couldn’t deny that….
getting great jazz-metal heroes PANZERBALLETT again for a show after their awesome performance at last year’s festival has been an easy task, and since lead axeman JAN ZEHRFELD is good friends with another great munich composer/band leader, he gave us some still unreleased material to check out his friend’s music, AND WE LIKE IT!!!
having four great bands a day just seems like a little festival, but when the new italian RIO-avant-rock hope YUGEN offered to be of some help with a show, we HAD to decide for a TWO-DAY event!!!
after we just started preparations for this FREAKSHOW ARTROCK FESTIVAL 2007, a message came in that SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM would have to cancel their gig due to changes in order of appearance at the prestigious PRINTEMPS DU BOURGES FESTIVAL, that is of great importance for their new european licensing label EQUILIBRE, and this lead to us planning a festival around the concert of a band that would not even show up at this same festival.
well, so it was either give up or fight, and we fought….and found a real supporter to our goal of presenting adventurous and demanding rock music to a devoted (if rather small) public: french MEKANIK-METAL-DISKO maniacs SEBKHA-CHOTT were delighted to slip in for SGM, and we were happy just beyond belief!!!
a few days later SGM’s tour manager once again contacted us, and it seemd that he was really sorry for the sad situation he had to put us in. that’s why he offered us the 22nd of april for a show, if it were not before 9 pm, and he promised to bring SGM safe through 9 hours driving from BOURGES to WÜRZBURG on the sunday, headlining the second day of the FREAKSHOW FESTIVAL together with SEBKHA-CHOTT, the band they will already be on stage together 3 days prior….
the attempt to get one of the more interesting melodic-metal-rocking artists for the festival finally failed due to their concert obligations and our financial situation, but a big thanks to LAZULI anyway for considering to help us out. they might have drawn some more visitors, but, well… see you next time!!!!
and finally, here we are with a rather unexpected guest for the usual FREAKSHOW FESTIVAL line-up: (very!!!) melodic progressive/70s rockin’ swedish guys from MOON SAFARI, already considered for last year’s edition, gave us a YES, and they will bring along their new album and give us evidence of their great live abilities!!! so they might draw even some courageous fans of the FLOWER KINGS to WÜRZBURG…
